LB-480 and LB-490 Temperature and Measurement Data Recorder — Communication Protocols

ipv6-ipv4-protocols-01.jpg

LB-480 and LB-490 recorders support standard communication protocols, thus allowing for simple integration with any measurement systems and existing software.

IPv4/IPv6

IP is the basic protocol supported by the LB-480 recorder. The protocol is used for communication via an Ethernet interface and in remote data transmission via a GSM/GPRS mobile network.

Version 4 of the protocol (IPv4 — the most common nowadays) and version 6 (IPv6) — that will replace version 4 in the future — are supported. Therefore the LB-480/LB-490 module is completely ready for the future — in the case of migration of current IPv4 networks to IPv6, the recorder will not require any work or additional investment.

The no-state auto-configuration mechanism of the IPv6 (SAC) address enables the incorporation of the LB-480/LB-490 recorder within the network, without the need to individually configure each recorder.

UDP/TCP

As transport layer protocols of the LB-480/LB-490 recorder the UDP and TCP are used — as a standard for IP networks. These protocols are in turn used by the protocols of higher layers (applications).

HTTP

With the use of HTTP, the data may be transferred in different formats:

HTML

The LB-480/LB-490 recorder gives a direct overview of data via a web browser — in HTML format with the use of HTTP protocol. The data are updated automatically, without the need to refresh manually.

JSON

The LB-480/LB-490 recorder shares data in JSON format, with the use of the HTTP protocol.

Typical applications are all network programs that are able to read out data in the following format.

{ "vendor": "LAB-EL", "type": "LB-480", "sn": "1", "name": "LB-480 #1", "input": [ { "name": "Input 1", "mode": "bin", "v": [ false ], "u": null }, { "name": "Input 2", "mode": "s300", "id": { "type": "LB-715", "sn": 101 }, "v": [ 45.1, 25.0, 1005.0 ], "u": [ "%", "°C", "hPa" ] }, { "name": "Input 3", "mode": "t", "v": [ 26.3 ], "u": [ "°C" ] }, { "name": "Input 4", "mode": "3v", "v": [ 2.990 ], "u": [ "V" ] } ] }

XML

The LB-480/LB-490 recorder shares data in XML format, with the use of the HTTP protocol.

Typical applications are all network programs that are able to read out data in the following format.

<device> <vendor>LAB-EL</type> <type>LB-480</type> <sn>1</sn> <name>LB-480 #1</name> <input id="0"> <name>Input 1</name> <mode>bin</mode> <id></id> <var> <v>1</v> <u/> </var> </input> <input id="1"> <name>Input 2</name> <mode>s300</mode> <id>LB-715 #101</id> <var id="0"> <v>55.8</v> <u>%</u> </var> <var id="1"> <v>24.2</v> <u>°C</u> </var> <var id="2"> <v>1012.3</v> <u>hPa</u> </var> </input> <input id="2"> <name>Input 3</name> <mode>t</mode> <id></id> <var> <v>25.2</v> <u>°C</u> </var> </input> <input id="3"> <name>Input 4</name> <mode>3v</mode> <id></id> <var> <v>2.990</v> <u>V</u> </var> </input> </device>

MODBUS

The LB-480/LB-490 recorder shares all data in the form of MODBUS variables for SCADA class software. The standard MODBUS/TCP protocol is supported, according to the Modbus Organization Specification.

Data in MODBUS protocol are accessible via the following interfaces.

  • MODBUS/TCP and MODBUS/UDP — Ethernet interface,
  • MODBUS/RTU — RS-232 and RS-485 serial port.

SNMP

The LB-480/LB-490 recorder shares all data in the form of SNMP protocol variables for the network management software (NMS).

SNMP monitoring obtains information about the state of the network interface and read-out all measurement results obtained by the recorder. In a typical case such as server-room monitoring, the temperature may be monitored in a few places at ones, water flooding may be detected, and information may be received about door opening.

It is possible to programme threshold alarms for all measured values, which — when detected — trigger a trap (SNMP TRAP) sent to the NMS software. When an alarm state is detected, the NMS informs particular individuals via the use of the specified mechanisms (email, text message, etc).
