Description of the GSM wireless temperature and humidity recorder

The LB-524 GSM is a battery-powered recorder of air temperature and relative humidity, air pressure and light intensity. According to a programmed time interval, the recorder turns on the GSM/GPRS module and initiates communication with the LBX server with a pre-set IP address. The device is powered by easily exchangeable AA batteries (4x1.5 V) or via an external power unit. When the primary power source fails, the GSM operation is halted, but measuring and recording continue thanks to an integrated rechargeable long-lasting lithium battery. The measurement results and additional information are displayed continuously on an LCD display.

The LB-524 GSM hytherograph may perform various measurements, depending from the optional realization, according to the requirements of the ordering party:

  • temperature measurement (Pt-1000 RTD probe, sensor built into the housing or the external probe on a cable);
  • measurement of up to four temperatures with external measuring probes (the LB-524TX4 version);
  • relative air humidity measurement (hygrometer, sensor built-in inside the housing);
  • light intensity measurement in the range of visible light (luxmeter, sensor built-in inside the housing);
  • atmospheric pressure measurement (barometer, sensor built-in inside the housing).

Control of exceeding the alarm thresholds by the GSM wireless temperature and humidity recorder

Every measured value may be assigned with a lower and upper alarm threshold. When the measurement exceeds this range, an alarms is triggered. When the alarm threshold is exceeded, parameter measurements are carried out in 1-minute intervals, irrespective of the set measurement and recording times.

An additional feature of the alarm delay function enables the alarm to be triggered when the threshold is exceeded continuously beyond the set delay time.

The alarm may also be triggered by switching off the external power supply of the GSM LB-524 recorder, which can be used to signal mains power supply failure to the monitored devices (e.g.: refrigerators).

An alarm triggers additional reporting from the LB-524 recorder to the server working under supervision of the SCADA LBX software (irrespective of the time interval for data transmission). The alarm may also trigger text messages with information about the alarm to a maximum of 4 pre-programmed mobile phones.

Data transmission via GSM module of the wireless temperature and humidity recorder

In a typical application the recorder carries out measurements and records results in the memory over a set interval (ranging from 1 minute to 4 hours). Over a set interval the recorder turns on the GSM interface and transmits current and memory-stored measurement results onto a set permanent public IP address of a computer with SCADA LBX software.

In the absence of a permanent IP address, it is possible to use an additional Proxy LBX server. In particular, the customers using LB-524 recorders may employ a Proxy server shared by LAB-EL. This server provides a proxy service between LB-524 recorders and any customer’s computer with access to the Internet, but without a public IP address.

The registration specifications and IP address of the LBX server to which the recorder should connect must be set during the device configuration. The configuration is performed via USB interface.

Measurement memory of the GSM wireless temperature and humidity recorder

The GSM LB-524 recorder is equipped with a large memory for storage of approx. 30,000 individual measurement results. For example: for the thermometer function only, with recordings set at 20-minute intervals, this is sufficient for over a year of recordings in one recording session. The data are stored in the memory and “overwritten”, which means that when the memory is full, the oldest recordings are deleted.

In the case of lack GSM communication, the measurements are independently recorded in the LB-524 recorder memory, and after re-establishing a connection, the outstanding results are transmitted from the recorder’s memory to the data base of the SCADA LBX software that monitors the functioning of the LB-524 GSM recorder.

The LBX software makes it possible to work with many LB-524 GSM recorders concurrently.

Calibration certificate issued by an accredited laboratory for the GSM wireless temperature and humidity recorder

Every wireless thermohygrometer (thermometer, hygrometer), barometer, as per order, may feature an individual calibration certificate provided by the LAB-EL Calibration Laboratory.

Application of the GSM wireless temperature recorder and …

The LB-524 GSM temperature and humidity recorder is designed for controlling and documenting the course of technological processes in production facilities, warehouses and transportation — especially in pharmaceutical, medical and food industries. It is especially useful in meeting the requirements for ISO and HACCP production quality control. It may be used to control the temperature and humidity in distribution centres, growing cellars, vehicles, shipped packages, etc. The wireless four-channel temperature and humidity recorder supporting GSM transmission may perform temperature and humidity monitoring inside packages containing medicine, vaccines, food articles and other commodities subject to temperature and humidity during their transport via different means of transportation, overland, by sea or air. Even if over a certain period of time there is no connection to the GSM network, after re-establishment of the network connection, the recorder will send all the overdue measurement results to the database served by the LBX software, and so no data will be lost.
